The British and Spanish nearly fought a war (1790's) over the valuable pelts of these adorable Sea Otters, but cooler heads prevailed and a treaty was signed ... The Nootka Convention... Captain George Vancouver and Bodega y Quadra. There is also an old church close to the lighthouse that was built by the Spanish in the 1950's to commemorate this treaty.

One of the anglers coming ashore looked at me taking photographs and said "You missed sunset" I replied "yup...Oh well" and kept shooting :)
