Miss Dimple , a certified beauty! even on this dark day... she glows Click on slideshow above to play .. my fav Bushtit images of the day! The 4 images above from today showing one of 2 Annas Hummingbird males well into their adult moult.
Those new feathers coming in must get itchy! Mizz "Broom-Tail Hilda celebrates the arrival of breakfast by playing the worlds smallest harmonica :)) .. Hope you enjoy the sights & sounds of nature! Thanks for looking.. TerryV
PS ,, now also on instagram A male Harlequin Duck ... taken today along Victoria's waterfront. (along with 1100 other shots) It may well be until tomorrow till I get the best ones sorted out! Thanks to all the great folks who I chatted with today! Its a real pleasure photographing birds and wildlife and also explaining what I am seeing... Thanks for looking... TerryV #naturalimagescanada Now also on instagram *** naturalimagescanada The group of Harlequin Ducks sunning on the rock eventually went out on the water, but this little fellow stayed back and had a long bath and grooming session... What fun! This handsome shorebird was new to me and kindly ID'd by a friendly birder (thank you, sir) as a Black Turnstone! They are very dark when sneaking through the tide rocks searching for small mollusks which they were prying off the stone. These local characters are always a treat for me to watch! Oystercatchers enjoy the afternoon sunshine!
Male Hairy Woodpecker pictured (The males have the red patch at the back of their head) If you see a woodpecker that looks similar to this it is either a Hairy or a Downy ( about 2/3 the size) There's nothing like a bath in the rain in January, right??? :)
*** Caption needed *** I'm light as a feather A quieter space Can someone bring me my glasses?? Walking on Sunshine These tiny ducks winter around S Vancouver Island by the 1000's and can be seen in the waters around Sidney from October to April. The males are the black and white version and the females are better camouflaged with their black, grey and white spots. Below is a series of 9 images showing a confrontation between a young male Annas and a mature male that swept in and attacked! No injuries, but this kind of thing happens all day long in the hummingbird world.
This guy (above) was trying to muscle in on the Deck Boss's territory today, as were 2 other adult male Hummingbirds ... It was an action packed afternoon! *click on image to see full size* The Deck Boss belts out some fine Hummingbird tunes! Fluff up those feathers... gonna be a chilly night little giant!
My tiny guardian of 4 deck feeders .. Today the weather is frightful.. Heavy rain at times, wind and chilly ... The day was such low light that taking a photo was a challenge. For any photo enthusiasts out there .... This shot was taken at ........ 5000 ISO, f5.6 , 1/80th sec 600mm........
Thanks for looking and all the best to you in 2019! |
