*The Great Blue Heron has to be one of my favourite local birds (yes...I have many favourites :) and I believe they inhabit much of Canada and N America. Their main diet might consist of fish, but local colonies will make use of whatever nature has to offer, be it fresh or saltwater fish, frogs, mice, gophers, birds...etc *Lately the numbers of these prehistoric Heronosaurus creatures seem to be increasing here on the Saanich Peninsula ,,,, much to my delight. :) *Large, noisy and colourful.... these long legged tree nesting birds are a delight to photograph .......

In early July 2015, the dry conditions across Western Canada created many wildfires and smoke from burning trees filled the air for several days causing a yellowish haze and giving the sun a filter that created some interesting effects. (These images from July5/6/ 2015 )
