With great thanks to my fellow bird enthusiasts E & S in Sidney for allowing me to photograph this beautiful sight! Momma Ann's feeding her two babies .. that will likely fledge within 2 days! After 30 years of feeding and observing Hummingbirds it was a great thrill for me to see this and take several hundred photos! Little Eagle has been with me each day since last June when I first began following his unusual story. Easch time I go down the highway and see a Red Tail Hawk, my mind bolts into LittleEagle mode and I wonder if this might be that same bird.
Last evening I was back looking for the Snow geese (but they have moved on.. Its a long way to N Siberia so I guess they needed to leave) and as I scanned the hillside, a large bird landed on a pole right beside me. I thought for sure he would be gone as soon as I started shooting photos, but this bird was not afraid. He allowed me to walk completely around and get shots from all the best angles, then after what seemed like 20 minutes finally slid off the pole and gracefully sailed across the fields.. LittleEagle or not, I have been forever changed by his gifts... *** I might add that the gifts from this amazing event include all the people I met nestside and online through sharing the story and images*** Snow Geese migrate along the Pacific Coast to a summer breeding ground on Wrangel Island in northern Siberia.
As seen this morning... 3 different Chickadee's cleaned me out of cotton wool and brushed dog fur.
! Ohh what fun! many poses of the young prince Mizz Rufous was being seriously courted by a brightly coloured male this afternoon and inbetween courting displays, she gathered nesting materials! click on individual photos below for best effect.
Female Rufous collecting nesting material this afternoon As darkness falls the hummingbird activity peaks with the past 2 nights around 30 tiny jet propelled beauties buzz past me and throughout my yard looking for the nectar fill-up that will keep them alive throughout the nite.
These last few images were all handheld at ISO 6400, f 5.6 @ 1/100th second These last 2 photos were shot this evening at 7:30PM Handheld, 5000ISO at 1/60 second
Male Anna's below .. these images taken during the last 1/2 hour of light this evening and during a rain/hail storm. Low light, hight ISO and very slow shutter speed give the colours and images a dreamy look! Thank you for stopping in! TerryV
